Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Foundation Calorie Counter ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information. The app is designed to keep your data on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not run advertising networks or third-party analytics, and we do not sell or share your data.

Summary

• Your food log, calorie entries, fasting sessions, and settings stay on your device and in your own iCloud account. We cannot see them.
• We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
• We do not require an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or contacts.
• The optional Pro cloud AI feature sends the food you type to our server and on to Anthropic (the Claude API) for a calorie estimate. This data is processed in real time and is not stored by us.

Information stored on your device and in iCloud

Food entries, calorie totals, fasting sessions, learned foods, your daily calorie goal, and app settings are stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, this data syncs through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. It lives in your private iCloud database — we, the developer, have no access to it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Cloud AI feature (Pro subscription)

If you subscribe to Pro, your calorie estimates are generated by a cloud AI model. When you log a food, the app sends the following to our server (a Cloudflare Worker):

• the food description you typed (e.g. "1/8 carne asada burrito"); and
• an Apple-signed subscription receipt, used only to verify your Pro subscription.

Our server verifies the subscription and forwards the food description to Anthropic (the Claude API) to generate the calorie estimate.

• We do not store your food description or the AI's response on our server. They are processed in real time to fulfill the request and then discarded.
• Anthropic processes this data under Anthropic's terms for the Claude API. As of this writing, Anthropic states that data submitted through its commercial API is not used to train its models; Anthropic may retain data for a limited period for abuse monitoring. • To enforce the daily query limit, our server stores a small counter keyed to your Apple subscription's transaction identifier (assigned by Apple) and the date. This counter contains no food data and auto-deletes within 2 days.

Subscriptions and purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. We verify subscription status using Apple-signed receipts (StoreKit), which contain a transaction identifier but not your name or payment details.

Voice entry

If you use voice entry to add foods, the app uses Apple's Speech Recognition and your device microphone to convert speech to text. This is handled by Apple's speech recognition under Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not store your audio. The app works fully without microphone or speech access.

What we do not do

• We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
• We do not track you across apps or websites. The app's privacy manifest declares no tracking.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data.
• We do not require you to create an account.

Data retention and deletion

• Data on your device: removed when you delete entries in the app or uninstall the app.
• Data in iCloud: managed by you through your Apple Account and iCloud settings.
• The cloud AI rate-limit counter on our server auto-expires within 2 days.

Children's privacy

Foundation Calorie Counter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Health disclaimer

Calorie values in the app are estimates and may not be exact. The app supports general wellness and is not a medical device or a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
